Fields of Work

We offer a range of interesting HiWi jobs, Bachelor theses, Master's theses and Ph.D. dissertations in the fields of Nanophysics, Mesoscopic systems, and electron transport through atom-size contacts.

Specific topics include but are not limited to:

  • Optical Antennas: Interaction of light with metallic and semiconductor nanostructures
  • Molecular Electronics: Transport through individual molecules with and without light irradation
  • Nanoelectromechanical Systems (NEMS): Atomic-size contacts on membranes
  • Spin-Thermo-Electronics: Ferromagnetic atomic contacts under microwave irradiation
  • Single-Electron Transistors with Atomic-Size Contacts: Interplay between superconducting and normal transport
  • Electron Transport at Small Scale: Preparation of samples with nanobridges and oxide-barrier-junctions
  • Proximity Effect in superconductor-ferromagnet systems probed with a scanning-tunneling microscope
  • Mescoscopic SuperconductivityHow restricted geometries lead to unconventional behavior in low temperature superconductors.

Experimental techniques which one will learn:

  • Electron microscopy
  • Micro- and nanotechnology
  • Vacuum- and pumping techniques
  • Low-temperature techniques
  • High-resolution transport measurements
  • Numerical data acquisition and evaluation

If you are interested in any of these topics, feel free to contact Elke Scheer or any of the PhD students or PostDocs in our group for more information.
